Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Transcriptionist to join our hospital team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately transcribing medical dictations from consultants and healthcare professionals into standardized medical documents. The role requires excellent listening, typing, medical terminology knowledge, and a strong focus on quality, confidentiality, and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Transcribe medical dictations, including patient histories, discharge summaries, operative notes, consultation reports, progress notes, and diagnostic reports.
• Review, edit, and proofread transcribed documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with hospital standards.
• Interpret and accurately apply medical terminology, abbreviations, and clinical documentation.
• Maintain high levels of productivity while ensuring transcription quality and minimal errors.
• Coordinate with doctors and clinical departments to clarify unclear dictations whenever required.
• Ensure all patient information is handled with strict confidentiality and in accordance with hospital policies.
• Upload and maintain completed reports in the Hospital Information System (HIS) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Meet defined turnaround times (TAT) for report completion.
• Maintain proper documentation and records as per departmental guidelines.
• Stay updated with evolving medical terminology, specialties, and documentation standards.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in departmental audits.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

• Graduate in any discipline.
• Certification or Diploma in Medical Transcription will be preferred.
• Excellent command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and medical vocabulary.

Experience

• 25 years of experience as a Medical Transcriptionist in a hospital or healthcare organization.
• Experience in multi-specialty hospitals will be preferred.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and clinical procedures.
• Excellent listening, typing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• High typing speed with strong accuracy.
• Familiarity with transcription software, speech recognition tools, HIS/EMR systems, and Microsoft Office.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure while meeting turnaround time commitments.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.
