Blood Bank Technician

Role & responsibilities

• Perform blood grouping, Rh typing, antibody screening, and cross-matching.
• Collect, process, label, and store blood and blood components as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure proper storage conditions and monitor temperatures of blood storage equipment.
• Perform compatibility testing before issuing blood and blood products.
• Receive, inspect, and process donor blood units.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records of blood collection, testing, inventory, and transfusion.
• Conduct quality control procedures on laboratory equipment and reagents.
• Ensure compliance with NABH, NACO, FDA (where applicable), and hospital policies.
• Assist in investigating transfusion reactions and report findings appropriately.
• Maintain inventory of blood units, reagents, and laboratory consumables.
• Follow infection control, biomedical waste management, and laboratory safety protocols.
• Coordinate with clinicians, nursing staff, and laboratory personnel to ensure timely availability of blood products.
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.

Preferred candidate profile

• Knowledge of NABH and NACO guidelines.
• Experience with automated blood bank analyzers.
• Understanding of quality management systems in laboratory services.
