Blood Bank Technician

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients for investigations in one prick.
• Practice proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors.
• Fill the lab test requisition form.
• Work on the Hinai software and barcode printing for labeling of vacutainers.
• Operate the pneumatic tube system for sending the sample from the collection site to the lab.
• Maintain the stock for the collection areas.
• Answer basic queries of the patient coming for collection regarding the reports and should be able to guide the patient appropriately.
• Do basic data entry of the samples in the lab.
• Follow instructions given to them by the doctors/technicians/customer care.
• Answer the phone calls as required at the reception desk.
• Maintain the required patient's records in soft and hard copies.
• Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
• Transport all specimen samples safely in case of home collection to the laboratory.
• Keep the phlebotomy cart / kit or station well-organized at all times.
• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.
