Job Description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Collecting, receiving, labelling, and/or analysing samples or substances using the correct testing

equipment, when necessary.

  • Recording all experimental data and test results accurately and in the specified format (written

and/or electronic.).

  • Organising and storing all chemical substances, fluids, and other consumables according to

safety instructions.

  • Ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to at all times within the laboratory.
  • Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
  • Cleaning, sterilising, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.
  • Discarding samples as per sample retention policy.
  • Performing lot to lot verification of QC materials and reagents.
  • Providing technical support, when necessary.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
  • Recording data from experiments or tests, including temperatures, concentrations of chemicals,and other measurements.
  • Training new lab technicians on proper equipment use and safety procedures.
  • Evaluating results and making conclusions about experiment methodology and results.
  • Communicating with other members of the research team regarding experiments or test results.

Responsibilities toward Quality:

  • Take responsibility to run daily QCs along with the RCA & CAPA for the outliers.
  • To monitor daily QC along with the LJ-Charts.
  • To ensure participation of the laboratory in available and relevant EQAS programs and ILC (InterLabcollaborative) studies.
  • To document root cause analysis with corrective and preventive actions for all the outliers.

All duties will be performed according to written laboratory procedures and after appropriate training by a

designated supervisor.

Technical Duties

• Shall read, understand and comply to all department SOPs.

• Shall help in sample sorting instrument wise or as per STAT request.

• Shall perform Daily Maintenance and additional maintenance protocols as per SOP.

• Shall monitor stock and usage of reagent, controls, calibrator, consumables and back up spares

(probes, bulbs, tubings). To comply to the system procedure of Stock and inventory

• Shall plan and implement equipment acceptance testing (Test method verification) as per

defined procedures

• Shall ensure that expired material if noticed, to be escalated to designated supervisor. Not to

use any expired material.

• Shall monitor integrity of samples prior to processing

• Shall perform daily IQC, QC review (IQC outliers documentation), trouble shooting of errors,

root cause analysis, CA, PA with help of Section heads, Doctors.

• Shall participate in monthly QC review, internal audits and external audits

• Shall monitor pending reports as per protocol (3 – 4 hourly wherever applicable) and strive to

maintain desired TAT.

• Shall expedite STAT reporting as per protocol and inform critical alerts as per department policy.

• Shall review results and validate results after looking at delta check (previous reports)

• Shall ensure that appropriate pre-analytical conditions are met before releasing abnormal

reports for all tests.

• Shall check on retesting of results and recollection of samples for retesting with the consent of

HOD or other pathologists.

• Shall perform all manual tests under supervision.

• Shall perform retention, sample archiving and discard of samples as per QSP

• Shall point errors in existing processes and escalate the same.

• Shall print Levey – Jennings chart wherever applicable, document the Coefficient of variation of

analytes.

• Shall perform additional QC procedures as per requirement (Inter instrument comparison,

retained sample)

• Shall perform Proficiency testing and document it with the help of QA department

• Shall perform verification of new kits and maintenance of the equipment’s (testing and Non-

testing).

• Shall follow the calibration protocols and notify any concern to the senior.Role & responsibilities
