Job Description
- Specialized Fleet Allocation: Secure and deploy appropriate heavy-duty vehicle assets, including flatbeds, specialized coil carriers (well-trailers), side-body trucks, and tippers.
- Payload & Axle Load Optimization: Maximize Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) utilization up to legal axle-load limits to reduce the cost-per-tonne of heavy aluminium ingots and billets.
- Asset Protection: Establish strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cargo moisture-proofing, tarping, and specialized lashing to prevent water staining, oxidation, or physical denting of finished aluminium during transit.
- Carrier Sourcing & Negotiations: Drive annual and seasonal freight bidding (RFQs) to contract reliable, high-capacity transport vendors and third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
- Demurrage & Detention Control: Optimize plant and smelter turnaround times to eliminate driver detention costs and heavy plant-gate congestions.
- Freight Rate Tracking: Monitor regional fuel surcharges and spot-market fluctuations to insulate the business from unexpected spikes in transportation operating expenses (Opex).
Preferred candidate profile
- 10-15 years of experience in heavy logistics, bulk transportation, or supply chain operations.
- Minimum 4+ years of direct experience handling metals (aluminium, steel), mining, cement, or heavy industrial manufacturing distribution.
- Technical & Analytical Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency with enterprise ERPs (SAP SD/MM) and automated Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Strong expertise in logistics data analytics, freight budgeting, and cost-benefit modeling.
