Job Title: Kafka Admin (L2)

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Level 2 support for Confluent Kafka infrastructure in production and non-production environments.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including patching, upgrades, topic management, and access control.
• Monitor Kafka clusters for performance, health, and availability using tools like Prometheus, Grafana.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Kafka-related issues (e.g., message delays, broker failures, replication issues).
• Coordinate and escalate incidents to Level 3 support or vendors when needed.
• Perform cluster capacity planning and assist with partitioning strategies.
• Support Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and Kafka Streams where applicable.
• Maintain TLS/SSL certificates, authentication mechanisms (SASL, Kerberos), and authorization policies (ACLs).
• Document operational procedures and create knowledge base articles for L1 and L2 teams.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to alerts or outages.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 3-4 years of experience working in a Kafka Administrator or similar infrastructure support role.
• Proficient with Confluent Kafka architecture, brokers, producers, consumers, and ZooKeeper/Kraft.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and shell scripting (Bash, Python).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Datadog).
• Knowledge of Kafka security configurations: TLS/SSL, SASL, ACLs.
• Basic understanding of Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and MirrorMaker.
• Ability to read Kafka logs and analyze issues across brokers and clients.
• Experience with incident and change management processes (ITIL framework preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
