Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Health & Safety Management

  • Implement and monitor safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits.
  • Identify hazards and perform risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with PPE requirements and safe work practices.
  • Monitor contractor safety and ensure adherence to company EHS rules.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions.

2. Environmental Management

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and solid waste management.
  • Monitor environmental performance and maintain statutory records.
  • Coordinate waste disposal and recycling activities.
  • Monitor operation of effluent treatment plants (ETP), sewage treatment plants (STP), and pollution control systems.
  • Prepare reports required by environmental authorities.

3. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Factories Act, State and Central Pollution Control Board requirements, hazardous chemical handling regulations, and other applicable laws.
  • Maintain statutory registers, licenses, permits, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate inspections by government authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Track changes in EHS legislation and communicate requirements to management.

4. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct safety induction training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Organize safety training programs on chemical handling, emergency response, fire safety, and PPE usage.
  • Promote safety awareness through toolbox talks, campaigns, safety observations, and posters.
  • Develop a positive safety culture throughout the plant.

5. Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans.
  • Conduct mock drills for fire, chemical spills, gas leaks, and other emergencies.
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of firefighting systems and emergency equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities during incidents.

6. Occupational Health

  • Monitor workplace health hazards such as dust, fumes, noise, and biological exposure.
  • Coordinate periodic health checkups for employees.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals, bio-products, and fertilizers.
  • Implementation of occupational health programs.

7. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain incident reports, inspection records, safety observations, and audit reports.
  • Prepare monthly EHS performance reports and KPI dashboards.
  • Analyze safety statistics and recommend improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) and chemical inventories.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety, related field.
  • Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety preferred.
  • Certification in Fire & Safety Management is desirable.

Experience

  • 5-8 years of experience in EHS functions within Bio Products, Fertilizer, Chemical, Manufacturing, or Process Industries.
  • Experience handling statutory compliance, safety audits, and environmental management systems.
