About the role
Name of the position: Development Engineer
Required Educational Qualification Work Experience: Diploma or Graduate with Engineering in respective category of parts ( Graduate 3-5 Years, Diploma - 5-7 years of experience)
Position Description: Development of exclusive parts Pressing Fabrication for New products/refresh/upgrades meeting QCD targets and project timeline. Responsibilities will also include cross-functional program management to qualify new components, developing process to optimise cost, and auditing suppliers to ensure agreed process conformance.
Roles Responsibilities:
- Ability to study 2D drawings as well as having good proficiency in understanding GDT elements shared in Part drawings.
- Float RFQ to multiple sources,Selection of source according to the complexity of the part / product with respect to QCD requirements.
- Capable of providing manufacturing feedback to Designers through Self and suppliers. And should be able to update critical MFB / DFB points in next level of Drg release.
- Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best manufacuring practices / designs and process for the respective prior to Tool cutting clearance.
- Expertise in Part Tool cost estimation arrive at part cost parameters to create Target cost deployment (TCD) / Target cost sign off / ECR analysis to RD / PRG team
- Responsible for leading the solution for supplier component concerns,driving Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) w.r.t Project specific phases.
- Evaluate and select required tooling suppliers along with part suppliers. (applying sourcing strategy time to time)
- Estimate the cost ( Zero based costing), discuss, negotiate the cost in line with the TCD sign off with all stake holders.
- Schedule supplier visits to part suppliers as well as tool suppliers for evaluating the process, development progress and de bottleneck issues arising during the course of development
- Support suppliers for various cost reduction initiatives ( Eg VA VE , process re engg, reducing RM wastage by improving yield, Tier 2 sourcing, Material handling frieht cost optimisation etc)
- Finalise the tool cost , part cost with in the specified cost norms for timely release of LOI /Purchase orders. (Prior to Beta assy)
- Monitoring and completing the APQP activities with the suppliers, reviewing the periodic progress
- Monitoring the sample development, pilot and initial production of the new products
- Discuss with RD, QAD, PED, Operations team with respect to improving part quality and delivery requirements.(time to time basis)
- Conducting PPAP activities at supplier end along with QAD team to meet the project timelines and should ensure PSW Signoff with the required capacity
- Ensure Part cost settlements as per L4 and responsible for PO amendment to suppiers prior to CP/ CPG file transfers.
- Ensure capacity data base updation inline with PSW sign off copy.
- File transfer to CP / CPG : Buyer code change from NPD buyer to regular buyer for your respective parts.
Other Requirements:
- Diploma or Graduate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent disciplines ( Graduate 3-5 Years, Diploma - 5-7 years of experience)
- Experience in part development and strategic part sourcing functions in Pressing Fabrication components.
- Hands on experience in Tool making / Tool designing w.r.t part development in stamping parts.
- Should able to estimate Part costs for various types of parts and processes with detailed breakup's Logics
- Should have knowledge on SAP MM module ( Material master, QM info, PO release , Scheduling etc...)
- Should be able to converse in English as well as Regional National languages ( Tamil, Kannada Hindi)
- Should have knowledge on Problem solving techniques while part proving.(QC story preparation by usage of 7QC tools,8D analysis etc.,)
