What role you will play in our team
The Wells Quality Engineer - Drilling Services is a broad role definition for individuals, generally with an Operations background, supporting the global Wells business with a focus on Drilling Services, Equipment, and Tools. This role focuses on application of risk mitigations through quality best practices and processes to ensure integrity and compliance of materials, products, and equipment to industry and specified requirements and provides guidance on fit-for-purpose quality implementation. This position is embedded in the technical center (based in Bengaluru) and provides support to business units and the global Wells Quality network.
This role is also responsible for stewarding monthly Global Wells Quality Network meetings, driving efficiencies in the standardization of processes, sharing quality catches and alerts across business units, and enabling the implementation of best practices through continuous improvement and industry engagement.
What you will do - Stewards monthly Global Wells Quality Network meetings leads the standardization of processes and enables the implementation of best practices through lessons learned and industry engagement.
- Leads the standardization and improvement of the Interval Problem Reporting / Quality Event Reports (QER) across business units facilitating the development of associated tools and dashboards.
- Assist the maintenance and distribution of quality catches associated with Drilling Services and equipment manufacturing activities.
- Aids the Global Quality network with ExxonMobil Rig equipment inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance requirements.
- Stewards the maintenance of Wells Teams Quality Plans for business units and aids the implementation of Quality Control Plans for Suppliers and Service Quality Plans for Drilling Contractors and Service Partners.
- Support the Global Wells Quality network with the stewardship of capability and QMS assessments of Drilling Contractors, Service Partners and Suppliers
- Provide support for business units (when requested) to ensure that all drill string and BHA equipment and services meet the minimum specified technical and quality requirements
- Provide support (when requested) on tool and equipment preparations and inspections to include, but not limited to, manufacturing, disassembly, inspection, repair, servicing, reassembly, pressure testing, and function testing of equipment including directional drilling, BHA drill pipe, tubular handling, cementing, wireline and coil tubing equipment to ensure proper procedures are followed (e.g. quality plans and Equipment Preventive Maintenance, Inspection and Test Plans - PMITPs).
- Reviews of documents for manufacturing or services related to incoming equipment (Drill Pipe Inspection reports, TPI reports associated with manufacturing, MTRs etc.)
- Coordinates equipment and service failure investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action identification and implementation.
- Assists Wells Engineering staff with resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Requests-for-Exception (RFEs).
- Organize, plan, and supervise verification programs via Third Party Inspectors (TPIs) to ensure conformance with the applicable ExxonMobil specifications and industry codes and standards.
- Ensure appropriate budget allocation for Third Party inspection agencies in collaboration with Wells Teams.
- Maintain sound understanding of API specifications and ExxonMobil Quality procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
Must have a bachelor s degree from a recognized university in engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing or Equivalent) as a minimum.
Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas Drilling Services equipment inspection and testing in the field of Quality.
Candidate must have a minimum CGPA of 7.0 out of 10. Must have strong knowledge of drilling services and rig equipment inspection, testing, preventive maintenance and major certification requirements.
Must have strong knowledge of design testing BOP equipment, control systems and recommended practices regarding BOP equipment, testing and maintenance (API 16A, API 16D, API RP53).
Experienced and familiar with API Q1, API Q2 API Product specifications such as API 5CT, API 5DP, API 7-1.
Experienced with Drill String Inspection (DS-1) and maintenance. Must hold NDT Level II certification in MPT, UT, LPT, RT, and VT.
Experienced and familiar with API and proprietary premium connection (VAM, Tenaris, JFE and Hunting), rotary connection inspection and threading operations.
Certification or auditing experience (ISO 9001 or API Q1 or Q2) is preferable.
Certification or welding experience (through a recognized body like AWS/CSWIP 3.1/3.2) is preferable.
Thorough knowledge of sound quality assurance practices. Abreast of best practices and latest technology in meeting minimum industry standards and specifications (such as API and/or ISO 9000, ASME, DS-1, NACE, etc.) for inspection, assembly, testing, storage and transportation of drilling services equipment.
