WBTC LTD

WBTC LTD

FinTech
WBTC itself is not a company with employees in the traditional sense, but rather a protocol governed by a DAO. BitGo, one of the founding members and the custodian of the Bitcoin backing WBTC, is a separate company with a significant number of employees.

Overview

WBTC LTD represents wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) within a limited company structure. WBTC is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain that represents Bitcoin (BTC). It is designed to allow Bitcoin to be used in the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem on Ethereum. Each WBTC token is backed 1:1 with Bitcoin held in custody by BitGo Trust Company.

About Us

WBTC was launched in January 2019 as a joint project by BitGo, Kyber Network, and Ren. The WBTC DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) governs the protocol, with members including leading projects and organizations in the crypto space. The goal is to bring Bitcoin's liquidity to the Ethereum network, enabling its use in decentralized applications, lending platforms, and other DeFi protocols.

Vision

The vision is to establish WBTC as the leading wrapped Bitcoin solution on Ethereum, bridging the gap between the Bitcoin and Ethereum ecosystems and unlocking new possibilities for decentralized finance.

Mission

The mission of WBTC LTD, through the WBTC protocol, is to expand the utility of Bitcoin by enabling its use in the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem. This involves maintaining the 1:1 peg with Bitcoin, ensuring transparency and security through audits and custody practices, and fostering adoption within the DeFi community.

Culture

The WBTC ecosystem emphasizes transparency, security, and community governance. The WBTC DAO promotes collaboration and open participation to ensure the protocol remains robust and adaptable to the evolving needs of the DeFi space. The culture values innovation and responsible development within the decentralized finance sector.
