Job Description

SourceDesk is looking for an experienced Accountant / Accounts Executive to join our Kolkata office and support our growing portfolio of international clients.


The ideal candidate should have hands-on exposure to Canadian accounting and bookkeeping, along with strong working knowledge of accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online (QBO), Xero, Sage 50, and QuickBooks Desktop.


The role involves end-to-end bookkeeping, account reconciliation, financial reporting, accounts payable/receivable, year-end preparation, and regular communication with Canadian and US-based clients. The candidate will work closely with clients, senior management, CPAs, tax professionals, and auditors to ensure accurate and timely accounting records.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting for Canadian and US-based clients.
  • Maintain complete and accurate accounting records using QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, QuickBooks Desktop, and other accounting platforms.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and other management reports.
  • Perform bank, credit card, vendor, customer, and other account reconciliations.
  • Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), including vendor bills, customer invoices, payments, collections, and follow-ups.
  • Record and maintain sales, purchases, receipts, payments, expenses, journal entries, and other accounting transactions.
  • Perform accounting activities up to the finalization of accounts and Balance Sheet.
  • Prepare and maintain Debit/Credit Notes and ageing reports for receivables and payables.
  • Monitor banking transactions and maintain accurate cash and bank records.
  • Assist with cash flow management and financial reporting.
  • Prepare periodic financial and management reports for clients and senior management.
  • Support the onboarding of new clients, including setting up accounting software/files and taking over existing books and historical accounting records.
  • Review existing books and identify discrepancies, pending reconciliations, or accounting issues.
  • Prepare year-end accounting packages, including Trial Balance, adjusting entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accountants/CPAs.
  • Coordinate with Canadian/US CPAs, tax professionals, auditors, and other external accounting professionals when required.
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding accounting queries, missing information, financial records, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and greater efficiency in client accounting processes.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of all assigned accounting activities.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2-4 years of relevant accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • Prior exposure to Canadian accounting and bookkeeping is strongly preferred.
  • Experience handling books/accounts for Canadian and/or US clients will be a strong advantage.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO) is essential.
  • Experience with Xero and Sage/Sage 50 is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop and other cloud-based accounting platforms will be an advantage.
  • Completed university Degree and/or has worked in an accounting designation
  • Good understanding of full-cycle accounting, bookkeeping, AP, AR, bank reconciliation, journal entries, Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and P&L.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with international clients through email, calls, and virtual meetings.
  • Strong numerical ability with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts, assignments, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with an accounting firm, outsourced accounting company, or international accounting process will be an added advantage.
  • Prior experience in working with a public accounting firm would be considered a strong asset.
  • MUST be willing to work in the Evening Shift from (2:00 PM to 11:00 PM) Mon-Fri .
