Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Digital and AI Solutions Engineering team, focused on designing, building, and owning backend APIs and services for a next-generation agentic platform for Finance and Accounting operations. The role requires strong hands-on engineering capability along with the maturity to drive technical design, implementation quality, reliability, and production readiness across backend service areas.
This role sits at the intersection of enterprise platform engineering, workflow orchestration, and AI-enabled finance operations. You will work with .NET Core and Python for backend APIs and services, PostgreSQL for data storage, and containerised workloads deployed on EKS. You will also work with Temporal.io for workflow orchestration and Azure services such as Event Grid, Service Bus, Data Factory, Databricks, Logic Apps, and Blob Storage. You will collaborate closely with AI engineers, backend platform engineers, frontend engineers, and finance domain SMEs, while also guiding engineering decisions, reviewing solution approaches, and mentoring less experienced engineers where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design and implementation of RESTful APIs and supporting services in .NET Core and Python that serve frontend and platform needs, connecting UI interactions to orchestration, exception routing, approval workflows, audit trail, notifications, and reporting capabilities.
- Lead backend data modelling decisions for PostgreSQL schemas, workflow state, tenant configuration, exception lifecycle records, audit events, and reporting patterns with focus on scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Drive secure API design by integrating enterprise authentication and role-based access control patterns, ensuring tenant isolation, approver role restrictions, and audit trail requirements are consistently enforced at the backend layer.
- Collaborate with AI, platform, frontend, and domain teams to expose LLM-generated recommendations, confidence scores, and agent reasoning through reliable backend services that help human reviewers make faster, better-informed decisions.
- Ensure backend and service observability through structured logging, API performance monitoring, error tracking, usage analytics, and production support practices to improve reliability across clients.
- Review solution designs and code changes, promote engineering best practices, and mentor junior team members on backend design, API quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
Required Skills
7+ years of backend development experience with strong proficiency in .NET Core and Python, including experience owning backend modules or services in enterprise-grade platforms.
- Strong backend engineering experience in .NET and Python, including API design, service reliability, production troubleshooting, and performance optimisation.
- Hands-on experience with EKS, PostgreSQL, Temporal.io, and Azure services including Event Grid, Service Bus, Data Factory, Databricks, Logic Apps, and Blob Storage.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs — including API design, versioning, error handling, and pagination.
- Understanding of authentication and authorisation patterns — OAuth 2.0, JWT, session management, and role-based access control.
- Ability to work as a senior individual contributor by independently driving technical decisions, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring delivery quality without close supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid experience with PostgreSQL — schema design, indexing, query optimisation, transactional data modelling, and performance tuning for high-throughput application workloads.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerised deployments using Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
- Familiarity with audit trail and compliance requirements in regulated environments.
- Experience integrating applications with Azure-native services such as Event Grid, Service Bus, Data Factory, Databricks, Logic Apps, and Blob Storage.
- Understanding of Finance and Accounting KPIs — STP rate, first-pass match rate, exception aging — and how operational teams use these metrics to manage performance.
