Job Description

Protection Engineer - EHV Substations
Experience: 7-9 Years
Qualification: Diploma / Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Electrical and Electronics)
Location: Nashik, Maharashtra
1. Protection Testing & Commissioning
  • Perform testing and commissioning of protection schemes including:
  • Distance Protection / Advanced Distance Protection
  • Line Differential Protection (if applicable)
  • Transformer, Busbar, and Feeder Protection schemes
  • Conduct primary and secondary injection testing of protection relays.
  • Verify protection logic, interlocks, and scheme functionality.
2. Relay Handling & Programming
  • Configure, program, and troubleshoot protection relays from leading OEMs:
  • Siemens
  • ABB
  • GE
  • SEL
  • Modify relay settings and logic based on system requirements.
  • Ensure proper relay coordination and settings compliance with grid standards.
3. GOOSE Messaging & IEC 61850
  • Configure and validate GOOSE signaling schemes.
  • Test inter-relay communication and ensure proper functioning of IEC 61850-based systems.
  • Diagnose communication and networking issues within digital substations.
4. Fault Analysis & RCA
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of protection system failures and disturbances.
  • Analyse fault records, event logs, disturbance records, and relay data.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and recommend corrective actions.
5. Troubleshooting
  • Identify and rectify issues in protection schemes and control circuits.
  • Ensure minimum downtime through effective fault diagnosis.
  • Support site teams during breakdowns and emergency situations.
