Job Description

Powertrain CAE Senior Engineer / Lead – Durability

Experience: 6 to 10 yrs

Job Location: Pune

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Powertrain CAE Senior Engineer / Lead with 6 to 10
years of experience in Durability & Structural Integrity. The candidate will drive finite element analysis (FEA)
and fatigue life predictions for critical Powertrain sub-systems (fuel, cooling, intake, exhaust, mounting systems).
The role demands deep expertise in powertrain use cases, dynamic vibration, and abuse assessment to ensure
high reliability and compliance with structural standards.

Scope & Commodity Overview
Commodity: PTSE Durability
Scope of Work:
  • Durability assessment of Powertrain systems:
  • Fuels, Cooling, Intake & Exhaust systems
  • Mounting brackets, isolation & structural interfaces
  • Vibration analysis & dynamic excitation
  • Abuse loading & shock/impact assessments

Key Competencies & Skills:
  • Powertrain commodity knowledge
  • Experience with Powertrain use cases
  • Expert FEA analyst (HyperMesh, Abaqus)

Required Software Proficiency:
  • Abaqus
  • OptiStruct
  • HyperMesh
  • HyperWorks
  • nCode DesignLife

Key Responsibilities:
  • FEA Modeling & Assembly Build: Lead high-fidelity finite element modeling for powertrain sub-systems (fuel
  • tanks/lines, cooling modules, air intake, exhaust, mounting brackets) using HyperMesh / HyperWorks.
  • Non-Linear & Structural Analysis: Execute complex linear and non-linear static, dynamic, and thermal-stress
  • assessments in Abaqus and OptiStruct considering bolt pretension, gaskets, and contact non-linearities.
  • Fatigue & Life Prediction: Perform advanced fatigue evaluations (stress-life, strain-life, multiaxial fatigue,
  • vibration fatigue) using nCode DesignLife to ensure component service life longevity.
  • Vibration & Abuse Load Assessment: Model dynamic vibration behavior (random response, harmonic
  • excitation) and extreme abuse events (impact, shock loads, over-torque conditions).
  • Design Optimization & Root Cause Analysis: Identify failure modes (crack initiation, yield, fatigue damage)
  • and recommend structural/weight optimizations using OptiStruct.
  • Test Correlation & Validation: Collaborate with testing teams to correlate FEA predictions with rig and vehicle
  • test results across development phases.

Technical & Domain Skills
  • In-depth technical knowledge of Powertrain commodities(cooling, intake, exhaust, fuel systems).
  • Strong theoretical foundation in solid mechanics, strength of materials, fatigue theory, and vibration.
  • Demonstrated experience handling OEM vehicle load cases and durability duty cycles.
