Job Summary
The Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive outpatient women's healthcare services, including preventive gynecology, antenatal and postnatal care, reproductive health, family planning, menopause management, and early identification of high-risk pregnancies and gynecological conditions. The consultant works collaboratively with other specialists to provide integrated, patient-centered care while ensuring high clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Diagnose and manage common gynecological conditions in an outpatient setting.
- Conduct routine gynecological consultations for women across all age groups.
- Manage menstrual disorders, PCOS, infertility evaluation, pelvic pain, vaginal infections, urinary complaints, and menopausal symptoms.
- Provide comprehensive antenatal (ANC) and postnatal (PNC) care for low-risk pregnancies.
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and coordinate timely referrals to tertiary care hospitals.
- Perform routine obstetric examinations and fetal assessments.
- Counsel patients regarding pregnancy planning and maternal health.
- Manage early pregnancy complications and provide appropriate referrals when required.
Preventive Women's Healthcare
- Conduct annual women's health check-ups.
- Perform cervical cancer screening (Pap smear/HPV screening).
- Conduct breast examinations and counsel regarding breast cancer screening.
- Recommend HPV vaccination and adult immunizations.
- Counsel patients on nutrition, exercise, osteoporosis prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Promote preventive healthcare and early disease detection.
Family Planning & Reproductive Health
- Provide contraceptive counseling based on individual patient needs.
- Insert and remove intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs), where applicable.
- Manage hormonal contraception.
- Counsel couples regarding fertility planning.
- Evaluate and initiate workup for infertility before referral to fertility specialists when appropriate.
- Provide preconception counseling.
Minor Procedures
Perform outpatient procedures such as:
- Pap smear
- Endometrial sampling (where appropriate)
- IUCD insertion and removal
- Cervical biopsy (where applicable)
- Colposcopy (if available)
- Vaginal infection evaluation and treatment
- Minor gynecological procedures as per clinic scope
Patient Counseling
- Explain diagnosis, investigations, and treatment plans clearly.
- Counsel regarding pregnancy care and nutrition.
- Provide education on breastfeeding and newborn care.
- Discuss menopause management options.
- Offer counseling on sexual and reproductive health.
- Encourage preventive screening and follow-up compliance.
Clinical Documentation
- Maintain complete and accurate Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Document consultation notes, examination findings, investigations, diagnoses, procedures, prescriptions, and follow-up plans.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Quality & Patient Safety
- Follow evidence-based clinical guidelines.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Report adverse events and clinical incidents.
- Ensure safe prescribing practices.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with Internal Medicine physicians, Pediatricians, Radiologists, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, and Nursing staff.
- Coordinate referrals for high-risk pregnancies and surgical cases.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Support integrated women's health programs.
Business & Operational Responsibilities
- Support preventive women's health initiatives.
- Promote antenatal care packages and wellness programs ethically.
- Participate in corporate wellness and women's health awareness programs.
- Contribute to patient retention through continuity of care.
- Assist in achieving clinical quality and operational KPIs.
Teaching & Professional Development
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME).
- Stay updated with current obstetric and gynecological guidelines.
- Mentor nursing staff and junior clinicians.
- Conduct patient education sessions and community outreach programs.
