Lead Functional Writer and Instructional Designer

Role & responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Functional Writer with hands-on experience in Instructional Design to join our Learning & Development team. This is a mid-level role focused on creating clear, accurate, and user-centric content, including process documentation, functional specifications, training materials, and e-learning modules. The role involves close collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), business analysts, and project teams to translate complex functional information into accessible content for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain functional specification documents (FSDs), business requirement documents (BRDs), and process guides.
• Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user manuals, and knowledge base articles.
• Create release notes, change management communications, and internal policy documents.
• Collaborate with BAs, PMs, and SMEs to gather accurate information and ensure content quality.
• Review and edit existing documentation for consistency, accuracy, and clarity.
• Design and develop engaging instructor-led training (ILT), virtual ILT (vILT), and self-paced e-learning content.
• Apply instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Blooms Taxonomy) to develop effective learning solutions.
• Create storyboards, scripts, and course outlines aligned with defined learning objectives.
• Develop assessments, quizzes, and interactive scenarios to reinforce and validate learning.
• Use authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe Captivate) to build e-learning modules.
• Partner with L&D leads to ensure content aligns with organizational learning goals and strategies.
• Maintain content style guides, templates, and documentation standards across all deliverables.
• Ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and aligned with brand voice and tone guidelines.
• Manage document versioning and maintain a centralized, accessible content repository.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Authoring Tools: Proficiency in authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise, and Adobe Captivate.
• Productivity Suites: Strong command of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Workspace.
• Knowledge Management Platform: Exposure to tools like Confluence, SharePoint, JIRA, or similar platforms.
• UX Writing: Basic understanding of UX writing principles is an added advantage.
