Job Description
Position Title: Hydraulic Systems Engineer
Experience Level: 5-10 yrs
Department: Engineering / Product Development / Maintenance Engineering
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Hydraulic Systems Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in the design, analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization of hydraulic systems for industrial heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to support both new product development and existing equipment improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Hydraulic System Design & Development
Design, model, and validate hydraulic circuits for heavy industrial machinery (e.g., construction equipment, mining equipment, material handling machines).
Select hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, motors, filters, and accumulators.
Develop schematics using tools like Draftsight.
Work extensively with Windchill/Creo to identify hydraulics components/suppliers within the customer database to meet new product functions
System Analysis & Optimization
Perform hydraulic calculations (flow, pressure, power losses, cooling capacity).
Conduct root cause analysis on system failures and implement corrective modifications.
Optimize hydraulic performance for energy efficiency, reliability, and durability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers during machine development.
Support manufacturing and assembly teams with hydraulic-related technical guidance.
Provide technical assistance to service teams and customers for troubleshooting issues.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare hydraulic schematics, BOMs, test documentation, and design reports.
Ensure hydraulic system designs meet industry standards (ISO, DIN, SAE) and safety requirements.
Maintain documentation for change management and product lifecycle updates using Windchill.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Fluid Power Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of professional experience working with hydraulic systems in heavy machinery or industrial equipment.
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, hydraulic components, and system behavior.
Experience with hydraulic troubleshooting, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools.
Knowledge of hydraulic standards
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with closed-loop and open-loop hydraulic control systems.
Familiarity with electro-hydraulic systems and proportional/servo valve technology.
Understanding of PLC or embedded control systems used to operate hydraulic functions.
Hands-on experience working with construction, agricultural, mining, or lifting machinery.
Knowledge of FMEA, DFMEA, and reliability engineering practices.
Soft Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Attention to detail, with a focus on safety and quality.
