Director / Principal Data Scientist (GenAI)

Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist/Director - Data Science to lead the Generative AI (Gen AI) charter. This pivotal role involves training open-source LLM models, building agentic stacks, maintaining tech infrastructure, and providing strategic leadership. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in Python, mathematics, and logic, coupled with proven experience in delivering end-to-end solutions and team leadership. A STEM degree and 7-10 years of relevant industry experience are required.

About the Company

Data Science is fundamental to Delhivery's operations. Handling nearly three million parcels daily necessitates the extensive use of technology and algorithms, a core function of our Data Science/AI team.

Our team focuses on identifying and solving high-impact business challenges using our vast data resources. This includes, but is not limited to,

1. Location and Maps - Understanding addresses, their location and attributes, and how to reach them and service them differentially.
2. Network Optimisation - Optimising facility locations within our network, parcel distribution among riders, optimising connections and resources.
3. Predictive Modelling - Pricing, RTO, Product Categorisation, Fraud Modelling.
4. LLM/ Agentic Interventions - Building custom LLMs, using existing LLMs to solve business problems using agents in multi-modal use cases.

Each team member is expected to take full ownership of a problem statement, requiring the ability to switch between high-level business discussions and deeply technical solution design and implementation.

About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Data Scientist/Director - Data Science to lead the Gen AI charter within the team focused on:

1. Training open source LLM Models
2. Building the agentic stack using tools/mcps/LLMs/routers
3. Maintaining the necessary tech stack for observability and continuous improvement
4. Strategic leadership to define areas of experimentation and investment

• Strong mathematics and logic skills
• Strong written, oral and visual communication skills
• Strong in Python skills
• Team Leading experience of 5+ people
• Proven ability to deliver end-to-end solutions to industry problems
• 7-10 years of relevant industry experience
• Bachelors / masters degree in a STEM subject from a top-tier institution (either in India or abroad)
