About the Position

- Qualification: Diploma, ITI, or equivalent technical qualification in textiles, fiber technology, handicrafts, rural technologies, or related fields.
- Experience Required:
- Prior experience supporting natural fiber-based enterprises, weaving units, or community production centers.
- Experience working with rural livelihoods, artisan collectives, or producer groups will be preferred
Skills and Attributes
- Practical knowledge of pineapple fiber extraction, processing, and weaving/textile production.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot fiber extraction/processing machinery and tools.
- Understanding of quality standards and production workflows for natural fiber products.
- Experience working with artisans, producer groups, SHGs, or community enterprises.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and hands-on training skills.
About the Project
PCI India is implementing multi-state livelihood programmes across Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, supporting women and youth from rural and tribal communities to build micro-enterprises in bamboo craft, banana and pineapple fiber textiles, and community-led eco-tourism. The programme provides capacity building, tools and services, exposure, and market linkages to strengthen socio-economic resilience and promote inclusive, climate-resilient growth.
Within the programme, a dedicated pineapple fiber enterprise intervention is being implemented in Meghalaya to establish SHG-led fiber extraction and weaving units. The intervention converts agricultural waste (pineapple leaf biomass) into eco-fabric for fashion, packaging, and other value-added markets, combining technical training with market linkage support to build sustainable, climate-resilient livelihoods for women and youth.
The programme integrates appropriate technology, quality production processes, artisan skill development, and sustainable resource utilization.
The Role
The Technical worker will provide hands-on operational and technical support to ensure efficient functioning of pineapple fiber extraction, processing, and weaving activities at the unit level.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth operation and maintenance of pineapple fiber extraction and processing equipment.
- Support standardised production processes and quality assurance for eco-fabric and textile products.
- Strengthen technical capacities of artisans, SHG members, and production workers for efficient and sustainable enterprise operations.
- Support the establishment and smooth operation of SHG-led pineapple fiber extraction and weaving units.
