ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation)
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the national space agency of India, headquartered in Bengaluru. It operates under the Department of Space (DOS), which is directly overseen by the Prime Minister of India. ISRO is responsible for India's space program, which includes the design, development, and launch of satellites and launch vehicles, as well as space exploration and related scientific research.
About Us
ISRO was formally established on August 15, 1969, by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space program. It succeeded the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), which was set up in 1962. ISRO's primary objective is to advance space science, technology, and applications for national development. Over the decades, ISRO has achieved self-reliance in space technology, developing its own capabilities in satellite manufacturing, launch vehicle development (PSLV, GSLV, SSLV), and ground segment operations. Notable achievements include the Chandrayaan lunar missions, the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), and the development of indigenous satellite navigation systems like NavIC.
