Mission
The primary mission of the Zoological Survey of India is to undertake extensive surveys and explorations of faunal diversity across different states, ecosystems, and protected areas of India. This involves the inventorying and monitoring of animal species, conducting research on their taxonomy, distribution, and ecology. Additionally, ZSI contributes to environmental impact assessments of developmental projects and proposes mitigation measures to minimize adverse effects on wildlife and ecosystems. Its mission also includes maintaining and developing the National Zoological Collections and functioning as a national referral center for animal taxonomy.
