Mothers2Mothers
Mothers2Mothers (m2m) is an African-based international non-profit organization that unlocks the power of women living with HIV to deliver health services and education, and helps to create thriving families and communities. They train and employ these women, known as 'Mentor Mothers,' as frontline health workers who provide vital health services and peer support, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. Their work encompasses HIV prevention and treatment, early childhood development, nutrition, family planning, and maternal health, aiming to improve health outcomes and empower women to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
About Us
- Founded in 2001 in Khayelitsha, South Africa, Mothers2Mothers began as a groundbreaking pilot project to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. - Recognizing the profound impact of peer support, m2m developed a unique model where women living with HIV (Mentor Mothers) provide education, psychosocial support, and healthcare navigation to other pregnant women and new mothers. - Over two decades, m2m has evolved into a leading global health organization, employing thousands of women across multiple African countries. - They have significantly contributed to reducing paediatric HIV infections and improving the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents by leveraging the power of lived experience and community-led health solutions.
Vision
Mothers2Mothers envisions a healthy, equitable, and HIV-free future where all women, children, and adolescents have the opportunity to thrive. They work towards a world where no mother or child dies from a preventable cause and where empowered women lead the charge in creating resilient and healthy communities.
