It is a 'Mini Ratna' Category-I Enterprise of the Government of India. Established in 1975, NHPC's primary mandate is the planning, promotion, and integrated development of hydroelectric power projects in India and abroad, encompassing all aspects from investigation and design to construction, generation, operation, and maintenance. The company has also diversified into other renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, and provides consultancy services.
