National Rail and Transportation Institute
The National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI) was a pioneering Central University established in 2018 under an Act of Parliament (NRTI Act, 2018) in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It was the first university in India dedicated to transport-related education, multidisciplinary research, and training. Its primary objective was to create a specialized talent pool and foster innovation to meet the growing demands of the Indian Railways and the broader transportation sector. In 2022, NRTI was upgraded and renamed Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) through the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2022, broadening its scope to cover all modes of transport – rail, road, waterways, and aviation. GSV continues the legacy of NRTI as a world-class institution focused on integrated multi-modal transport research and education.
