About Blue Cross

Blue Cross of India - Embarking into our seventh decade in service to the voiceless.

Blue Cross of India (BCI) was registered as a society in 1964 with the aim to formalise what was already a fully functioning volunteer driven group that came together in 1959. As we enter our fifty eighth year of service to the voiceless, we stand tall amongst the most active animal welfare groups in India with hospitals, shelters, ambulance services and an active humane education programme.

Established in 1959 by Captain V. Sundaram, the Animal Welfare Board of India granted recognition to BCI in1966. Over the last five decades, BCI has grown to become one of the country's largest and most recognised animal welfare organisations.

BCI is the first of a new genre of organisations that looks after the welfare of all kinds of animals. BCI is home to cattle, dogs, cats, birds and scores of other species. We care for all street, community and wild animals (with permission from the forest department), that are orphaned, abandoned, old, injured, abused by cruel minds or physically disabled by speeding vehicles.
Our activities include sheltering, adoption, in-patient and out-patient veterinary services, ambulances and facilities for animal cremations. BCI also works closely with other NGOs in Animal Welfare.

We were the first animal welfare organisation in India to get the Guide Star Platinum Seal of Transparency (something we have been accredited with since 2013-14). This recognition shows commitment to transparency, by providing up-to-date information, BCI allows potential donors and funders to make informed decisions on donations.
