Overview
Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS), also known as JEEViKA, is an autonomous society under the Department of Rural Development, Government of Bihar. It is dedicated to poverty reduction and livelihood enhancement for rural communities in Bihar, India. The society implements the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) in the state, focusing on building strong community institutions of the poor, enhancing their access to financial services, improving their livelihoods through skill development and entrepreneurship, and promoting social inclusion.
About Us
BRLPS-JEEViKA, a Government of Bihar initiative, tackles rural poverty by empowering women and marginalized communities through self-help groups (SHGs) and their federations. The program fosters sustainable livelihoods, financial inclusion, and improved access to essential services such as health, nutrition, and sanitation. JEEViKA's core objective is to transform rural households' lives by providing necessary resources and support, ultimately enhancing their economic and social well-being. The initiative operates on the principle of community ownership and participatory development, ensuring that interventions are tailored to the specific needs and priorities of the target population. JEEViKA's multi-faceted approach includes strengthening existing SHGs and forming new ones, providing training and capacity building to members, and facilitating access to credit and other financial services. It also promotes diversification of livelihoods through agriculture, livestock, and non-farm activities. The program actively works to improve access to quality health services, promote good nutrition practices, and ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. Furthermore, JEEViKA places a strong emphasis on social development, addressing issues such as gender inequality, social discrimination, and child marriage.
