Role Overview:

The QA/Test Engineer owns test strategy, test cases, and release sign-off quality gates for the Backend Platform covering API and integration testing across 8 microservices and 9 external system integrations, event-driven test design for the Kafka notification pipelines, regression suites, and performance testing.
A core transition deliverable is the refresh of the existing test suites during Shadow & Co-Own, so the role requires building durable, automated regression coverage for a system that arrives with partial documentation and providing the release sign-off confidence needed for the solo release cycle in Month 5.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and maintain the test strategy, test plans, and test cases for the platform; map coverage to the 8 services and 9 external integrations.
Design and automate API and integration tests for REST endpoints (contract, functional, negative, and regression).
Design event-driven tests for Kafka pipelines: producer/consumer behaviour, ordering, retries, and failure handling for the Push and Email Notification flows.
Rebuild and refresh existing regression suites during transition; wire automation into the CI/CD pipeline.
Execute performance tests against agreed throughput and latency targets; report findings with the SRE.
Own release sign-off: entry/exit criteria, defect triage, and go/no-go quality input for each release including the Month-5 solo release.
Manage test data and test environments in coordination with DevOps.
Track defects and test execution in Jira; maintain test documentation in Confluence.
Validate fixes for L3/L4 incidents to prevent regression.

Mandatory Qualifications:

4+ years of QA engineering experience with strong automation focus.
API test automation experience (Rest Assured, Karate, Postman/Newman, or equivalent).
Solid integration and regression testing experience for microservices architectures.
Understanding of event-driven systems and experience testing Kafka-based flows (or equivalent message-driven systems).
Performance testing experience with JMeter, Gatling, or k6.
Strong SQL skills for data validation.
Experience integrating automated suites into CI/CD pipelines.
Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum and defect management in Jira.

Desired Qualifications:

ISTQB certification.
Contract testing experience (Pact or similar).
Java or Python coding proficiency for framework development.
Kubernetes basics (running/debugging tests against K8s environments).
Telecom or B2C platform testing experience.
Experience rebuilding test coverage on an inherited codebase.

Location for Reporting:

This role is based at the office Location and requires full-time, on-site presence. Candidates are expected to work from the office on all working days. Please note that this is not a work-from-home position.
