About the Job

As a Technical Manager for IDrive BMR (Bare Metal Restore), you will lead the team in advancing our Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery platform, improving backup, recovery, and cloud integration while driving reliability, scalability, and performance across on-premises and cloud environments.


What you will be doing:


Technical oversight & execution

  • Oversee the architecture and development of BMRs core platform (ZFS-based storage, backup orchestration, recovery automation).
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for next-gen BCDR capabilities, including AI-driven insights, smart retention, and hybrid cloud recovery.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver enterprise-grade reliability and seamless user experiences.

Team & project leadership

  • Lead and coordinate multiple engineering teams (Java, Python, C++, and frontend) to ensure timely, high-quality releases.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Product Owner to align on goals, priorities, and technical direction.
  • Oversee the complete product lifecycle from architecture and planning to QA, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Drive collaboration across backend, frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure efficient communication and delivery.

Core technologies youll work with

  • Server OS: Debian 12
  • Programming languages: Java, Python, C++, ReactJS
  • Storage layer: ZFS
  • Virtualization targets: Hyper-V, VMware
  • Backup targets: Windows endpoints
  • Architecture: Multi-service backend with a web-based management console

Process & collaboration

  • Engineering & Delivery Management: Direct multi-disciplinary engineering teams (15+ engineers) delivering high-performance backup and restore software
  • Agile Execution & Tooling: Drive sprint planning, backlog grooming, and team velocity using JIRA; foster an Agile/Scrum environment to ensure predictable, high-quality deliverables.
  • DevOps & Development Environment: Utilize Docker to streamline local development setups and maintain environment consistency across developer workstations. Partner with DevOps teams to oversee build, test, and release strategies.
  • Quality & Test Automation: Collaborate with QA leadership to define robust testing strategies, incorporating modern automated testing concepts to increase continuous test coverage.
  • Security & System Reliability: Embed application security best practices into the SDLC, focusing on secure data handling, encryption, and system hardening.

What we expect from you:


Experience & technical expertise

  • 10 to 15 years of software development experience, including 46 years in technical or engineering management roles.
  • Proven track record of leading multiple teams and technical leads, managing 20+ engineers.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Python, C++, and web-based architectures.
  • Hands-on understanding of Linux environments (Debian preferred), file systems, and storage technologies (ZFS preferred).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and decision-making skills, with the ability to align technical execution with business goals.

Good to have

  • Experience managing distributed systems or backup/recovery platforms.
  • Familiarity with RESTful API design, service orchestration, and hybrid cloud/on-prem integrations.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, testing automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Ability to evaluate, adopt, and integrate emerging technologies into production systems.
  • Passion for mentorship, technical leadership, and nurturing engineering talent.
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms (such as VMware and Hyper-V) and disaster recovery systems will be an added advantage.
