Overview

Teach For India is a non-profit organization that recruits and trains college graduates and young professionals to serve as full-time teachers (Fellows) in low-income schools for two years. The organization aims to bridge the educational inequity gap in India by providing quality education to underprivileged children. Fellows not only teach but also work to improve the school environment and engage with the community to address systemic issues affecting education. After the fellowship, alumni join a network of leaders working across various sectors to drive systemic change in education and related fields.

About Us

Founded in 2009 by Shaheen Mistri, Teach For India, modeled after Teach For America, operates across multiple Indian cities. The organization recruits talented individuals from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about education and creating a positive social impact. Teach For India provides its Fellows with comprehensive training and ongoing support, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge required to become effective teachers and impactful leaders within their classrooms and communities. Working in close collaboration with schools, various government agencies, and other relevant organizations, Teach For India strives to achieve its core mission: educational equity for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background. By placing Fellows in under-resourced schools for a period of two years, the organization aims to bridge the educational gap and provide students with access to high-quality education that will enable them to reach their full potential. The intensive training program focuses not only on pedagogical techniques but also on leadership development, community engagement, and understanding the systemic challenges that contribute to educational inequity. Fellows are encouraged to become advocates for their students and to work collaboratively with parents, school administrators, and community members to create a supportive learning environment. The long-term goal of Teach For India is to build a movement of leaders who are committed to transforming the education system and creating a more just and equitable society for all. The organization continuously evaluates its programs and adapts its strategies to ensure that it is effectively meeting the needs of its students and communities. Through rigorous selection processes, continuous professional development, and a strong network of alumni, Teach For India is dedicated to fostering a sustainable impact on the lives of children and the future of education in India.
