Job Summary

AMD is looking for an experienced Staff QA Engineer to join the Embedded x86 Software Quality and Validation organization. The role is responsible for validating BIOS and Firmware solutions across AMD Embedded and Enterprise platforms, ensuring product quality, stability, feature compliance, and customer readiness.

The QA Engineer will work closely with BIOS Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Silicon Engineering, Platform Engineering, Product Management, Program Management, and Customer Engineering teams to validate platform functionality, identify defects, reproduce customer-reported issues, drive root-cause analysis, and ensure timely closure of quality concerns.

The successful candidate will contribute to platform validation strategies, test planning, automation enablement, defect management, release qualification, and continuous quality improvements across AMD products.

Key Responsibilities

BIOS & Firmware Validation

• Validate BIOS, UEFI, firmware, and platform software releases across AMD Embedded x86 products.
• Execute comprehensive feature, regression, interoperability, reliability, and compliance testing.
• Verify implementation of new features, firmware updates, and platform enhancements.
• Validate platform initialization flows, boot paths, device enumeration, and runtime functionality.

Test Planning & Quality Assurance

• Develop validation plans, test strategies, and test cases based on product requirements and specifications.
• Define release readiness criteria and quality gates.
• Track validation status, risks, coverage, and quality metrics throughout development cycles.
• Participate in design reviews and requirement reviews to improve testability and product quality.

Defect Identification & Debug

• Reproduce customer and internal issues in controlled validation environments.
• Perform root-cause investigations for BIOS and firmware failures.
• Collect logs, traces, crash dumps, firmware evidence, and debug artifacts.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to isolate software, firmware, silicon, and platform-related issues.

Platform Bring-Up & Readiness

• Validate platform readiness for customer releases and production deployments.
• Execute stress, endurance, performance, and reliability test suites.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with:
• BIOS Engineering, Firmware Engineering , Silicon Engineering, Validation Teams, Product Management, Program Management, Customer Engineering Teams
• Provide timely quality feedback and validation reports.
• Support engineering teams in verification of fixes and regressions.

Release Qualification

• Participate in milestone reviews and release signoff activities.
• Assess product readiness against defined quality objectives.
• Support customer release validation and issue resolution activities.

Preferred Experience

• 5+ years of experience in BIOS Validation, Firmware Validation, Platform Validation, Embedded Systems Validation, or Software Quality Engineering.
• Strong understanding of:
  • UEFI BIOS, Platform Firmware, ACPI, SMBIOS, PCIe, Memory Initialization, Secure Boot, RAS Features, Power Management,
  • Platform Security
• Experience validating x86 or embedded system platforms.
• Familiarity with validation methodologies including:
  • Functional Validation, Regression Testing, Feature Qualification, Stress Testing, Interoperability Testing
• Experience with defect tracking systems such as Jira.
• Experience with laboratory equipment and debug tools including:
  • BIOS Debug Utilities, Logic Analyzers, Serial Consoles, JTAG Tools, Oscilloscopes, Trace Collection Tools
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Exposure to automation frameworks and CI/CD environments is highly desirable.
