This isn t a typical Staff Database Engineer role. You will operate at the core of a high-scale crypto exchange, owning the architecture and reliability of the data layer that powers real-time trading, wallets, and market infrastructure. You ll design and scale resilient, low-latency database systems capable of handling extreme volatility and transaction throughput. By bridging infrastructure and application layers, you will drive performance, data integrity, and system stability at crypto-speed. This role demands deep technical ownership, where your decisions directly impact uptime, risk, and user trust at scale.

What You ll Do:

Architectural Leadership: Lead the evolution of our global database architecture using Aurora Global Databases to ensure low-latency access and regional failover capabilities.
Performance Engineering: Deep-dive into SQL performance tuning, query execution plans, and indexing strategies. Solve complex concurrency and locking issues inherent in high-throughput financial systems.
Scaling Capacity Planning: Manage database scaling strategies (Read Replicas, Aurora Serverless v2, and Multi-AZ deployments) to handle massive spikes in traffic during market volatility.
Database Reliability (DBRE): Implement Infrastructure as Code(Terraform/CDK) for database provisioning. Automate lifecycle management, including patching, backups, and point-in-time recovery (PITR).
Security Compliance: Enforce strict encryption-at-rest and in-transit. Implement fine-grained access control (IAM Database Authentication) and audit logging to meet FinTech regulatory standards.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Backend Engineers to optimize data models and access patterns (avoiding N+1 queries, optimizing connection pooling with RDS Proxy).

You ll Excel in This Role If You:

Expertise in Amazon Aurora: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience specifically with RDS Aurora (PostgreSQL or MySQL compatible).
High-Scale Systems: Proven track record of managing production databases with terabyte-scale data and thousands of transactions per second.
AWS Mastery: Deep understanding of the AWS ecosystem, including VPC networking, KMS for encryption, CloudWatch for monitoring, and Performance Insights.
Automation: Proficiency in Terraform, Python, or Go for building database automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Database Internals: Strong understanding of transaction isolation levels, MVCC, and write-ahead logging (WAL).
