Engineer Strategic Sourcing (Mechanical) | Factory Industrial Automation

Job Summary

seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Engineer Strategic Sourcing (Mechanical) to support sourcing, vendor development, procurement planning, and supply chain activities for factory industrial automation projects. The role involves sourcing mechanical components, fabricated assemblies, material handling equipment, and industrial automation systems while ensuring cost optimization, quality compliance, and timely delivery.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical understanding of mechanical engineering components, vendor management, procurement processes, and industrial automation manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Source mechanical components and equipment for industrial automation and factory projects including:
    • Conveyor systems
    • Structural and fabricated components
    • Mechanical assemblies
    • Motors, gearboxes, bearings, and drives
    • Pneumatic and hydraulic components
    • Industrial hardware and standard parts
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop qualified suppliers and vendors.
  • Float RFQs, analyze quotations, negotiate pricing, and finalize procurement terms.
  • Support procurement planning and material cost optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure timely procurement and availability of materials for project execution and manufacturing schedules.

Vendor Management & Development

  • Conduct vendor capability assessments and technical evaluations.
  • Develop long-term supplier relationships and strategic sourcing plans.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to:
    • Quality
    • Delivery
    • Cost
    • Responsiveness
  • Coordinate with vendors for technical clarifications, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support localization and alternate vendor development initiatives.

Technical Coordination

  • Coordinate with:
    • Mechanical design teams
    • Production teams
    • Project management
    • Quality departments
    • Stores and logistics teams
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs for procurement requirements.
  • Ensure sourced materials comply with technical and quality standards.
  • Support resolution of technical and commercial procurement issues.

Cost Control & Supply Chain Optimization

  • Analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier capabilities.
  • Support cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
  • Track procurement KPIs and prepare sourcing reports.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement procedures, contracts, and company policies.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain procurement records, supplier databases, and sourcing documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, safety requirements, and compliance regulations.
  • Support audit activities related to procurement and supplier management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 3 6 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain within industrial automation, manufacturing, or engineering industries.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Mechanical components and fabrication processes
    • Industrial automation equipment
    • Material handling systems
    • Manufacturing processes and engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of:
    • Vendor management
    • Procurement planning
    • Cost analysis and negotiation
    • Supply chain processes
  • Proficiency in:
    • ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc. )
    • MS Excel and procurement reporting tools
  • Familiarity with:
    • AutoCAD drawings
    • BOM analysis
    • Industrial materials and standards

  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple suppliers.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in factory automation, warehouse automation, material handling, automotive, manufacturing, or heavy engineering industries.
  • Exposure to sourcing fabricated structures, conveyors, robotics components, or automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and supplier audit processes.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Kaizen, or supply chain optimization practices is an advantage.
