Job Description

Role Overview

The Mid-Level Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for development and integration of low-level software components for BMW automotive ECUs. The engineer will work closely with hardware design teams and contribute to board bring-up, driver development, RTOS integration, and ECU software integration.


Key Responsibilities

Embedded Platform Development

  • Perform microcontroller and board bring-up activities.
  • Develop and integrate: MCAL Drivers, ECAL Components, HAL Drivers, Device Drivers, Bootloaders
  • Develop startup software and platform initialization logic.
  • Configure interrupt and memory management frameworks.


ECU Software Integration

  • Integrate software on new hardware platforms.
  • Support RTOS integration activities.
  • Perform software and hardware debugging.
  • Support communication stack integration.


Driver Development

  • Develop and maintain drivers for: CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, ADC, PWM, GPIO, DMA, etc.


Development Automation

  • Contribute to build automation infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain build scripts and CI/CD solutions.
  • Support software configuration and release management.


Quality & Compliance

  • Create design documentation.
  • Participate in software reviews.
  • Support ASPICE and Functional Safety activities.
  • Support cybersecurity implementation requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related disciplines.
  • 5-10 years of embedded software development experience.
  • Strong experience in: Embedded C, BSP Development, Board Bring-up, MCAL/HAL Development, ECU Integration, RTOS, Bootloader Development
  • Good to have: C++, Python
  • Experience with: CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART
  • Experience with automotive microcontrollers (at least one): Infineon AURIX, NXP S32, Renesas RH850, ST Microcontrollers
  • Working knowledge of: Linker Scripts, Memory Mapping, Startup Code, Build Systems, Debuggers, Git
  • Knowledge of Agile Scrum/Kanban
