Software Engineer

Role & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain features across the Java backend, REST APIs, database, and Angular frontend.
• Own features end-to-end, from database schema and backend implementation through API, UI, deployment, and production support.
• Translate ambiguous product requirements into clear, scalable technical solutions, including identifying edge cases and missing requirements.
• Work with a large, established production codebase and understand how changes can affect existing functionality.
• Design and optimise database schemas, indexes, queries, and migrations for production-scale workloads.
• Debug production issues using logs, metrics, live data, and other available evidence rather than relying on assumptions.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents while considering both the immediate issue and potential downstream impact.
• Review code for correctness, maintainability, performance, and unintended side effects, including AI-generated code.
• Identify solutions that appear technically correct but may fail under real-world data, scale, or business conditions.
• Develop and maintain reliable REST APIs and backend services using Java and Spring.
• Contribute to Angular-based frontend development where required.
• Participate in deployment, CI/CD, monitoring, and production support.
• Write clear technical documentation, design notes, code-review comments, and incident summaries.
• Help establish effective practices for AI-assisted software development, with a strong focus on code correctness and system-level impact.

4. Preferred Candidate Profile

Preferred Candidate Profile

• 36 years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience in Java backend development.
• Strong experience with Java and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Working knowledge of Angular or a comparable modern frontend framework; candidates should not be purely backend-only.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, SQL, relational databases, Git, CI/CD, and cloud fundamentals.
• Strong database fundamentals, including schema design, indexing, query optimisation, transaction behaviour, and production-safe database migrations.
• Able to read and understand an unfamiliar codebase quickly and independently identify potential bugs or design problems.
• Strong production debugging experience, with the ability to investigate issues using logs, metrics, database records, and other evidence.
• Experience handling or contributing to production incidents is strongly preferred.
• Able to reason about the impact of a change across the wider system rather than focusing only on the code being modified.
• Strong code-review skills and the ability to identify plausible but incorrect implementations.
• Comfortable working in a large, established, long-lived codebase, rather than having experience only with greenfield projects.
• Able to take ownership of features from technical design through deployment and production.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical documentation and incident communication.
• Comfortable working independently in a small engineering team.
• SQS/Kafka, observability tooling, AWS/cloud platforms, travel, fintech, or payments experience is an advantage.
• Experience working with AI-assisted development tools and the ability to critically review AI-generated code is a plus.
• Willing to work on-site in Noida.
