his role sits within the Sales Marketing Data Analytics team, part of the wider Digital Business Solutions (DBS) group. Our team provides the analytical foundations that drive two of Elseviers most revenue-critical functions: sales performance and marketing effectiveness.
On the Sales side, accurate and timely reporting is critical to incentivising and guiding our global sales force. The team supports two data warehouses:
- Opportunities - analytics on salesperson pipeline, actual sales, and quota
- Agreements - analytics on sales agreements and renewals
On the Marketing side, the team maintains a Contacts data warehouse that enables global marketing teams to design effective marketing campaigns with the desired segmentation for the business area and product they want to focus.
You will work closely with product owners, database architects, and data analysts across both domains on new and existing data initiatives, collaborating with local and global colleagues.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer III at Elsevier, you will be instrumental in our mission to help researchers and healthcare professionals advance science and improve health outcomes for the benefit of society. You will design, build, and maintain high-quality data pipelines and analytical solutions that power insights for our global sales and marketing teams - enabling them to make the right research products available to our customers in academia, research, and healthcare.
Your success will be measured by the reliability, performance, and business impact of the data solutions you deliver, and by your ability to elevate the engineering quality of the team around you.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product owners and analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and transformations in Snowflake and DBT
- Develop and uphold data modelling best practices, ensuring scalability and maintainability
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive, high-quality feedback
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, data quality issues, and reliability gaps
- Stay current with evolving technologies - including AI and LLMs - and assess their applicability to team challenges

Experience Skills
Essential:
- Solid experience in data warehousing, with hands-on Snowflake and DBT expertise
- Strong SQL skills and experience in database modelling and design
- Familiarity with agile development tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Experience with CI/CD practices (preferably Jenkins or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of AWS cloud services and Apache Airflow
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, particularly Terraform
- Programming experience in Python and/or Java
- Exposure to AI/ML tooling or LLM-based solutions
