At Exxat, we build scalable, high-impact SaaS platforms that power healthcare education across the U.S. We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) who can combine strong technical depth with leadership capabilities to drive engineering excellence.

In this role, you will lead engineering teams responsible for designing, building, and scaling complex software systems that support thousands of users across universities and healthcare institutions. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, and Leadership teams to translate product vision into scalable technical solutions while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring engineers, and delivering high-quality products at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Architect and lead the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance SaaS platforms using modern architectures such as microservices, serverless, and event-driven systems.

  • Drive High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) discussions for complex features and platform components.

  • Provide technical direction on system architecture, performance optimization, scalability, and reliability.

  • Contribute to the development of backend and/or frontend systems using technologies such as .NET, Go, Java, Node.js, React, or Angular.

  • Evaluate new technologies and conduct Proof of Concepts (POCs) to support product and engineering roadmap decisions.

  • Ensure engineering best practices including clean coding, design patterns, automated testing, and code reviews.

Team Leadership Engineering Management
  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

  • Mentor and coach engineers to improve technical depth, design thinking, and ownership.

  • Conduct performance reviews, career development discussions, and goal setting for team members.

  • Hire, onboard, and retain top engineering talent.

  • Ensure effective sprint planning, task prioritization, and delivery management in an Agile environment.

Product Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Architects, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-impact product features.

  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

  • Drive alignment between engineering execution and product roadmap priorities.

  • Participate in technical and product roadmap planning.

DevOps, Cloud Reliability
  • Guide teams in implementing CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps best practices.

  • Ensure systems are designed for observability, reliability, and operational excellence.

  • Support cloud infrastructure initiatives on Azure or AWS.

  • Improve system performance, monitoring, incident response, and operational readiness.

Required Skills Qualifications
  • 12?15 years of software engineering experience, including 3?5 years in engineering leadership or team management roles.

  • Proven experience delivering large-scale enterprise or SaaS products.

  • Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, and System Design.

  • Expertise in modern architecture patterns such as microservices and distributed systems.

  • Hands-on experience with backend or full-stack development technologies (.NET, Go, Java, Node.js, React, Angular, etc.).

  • Experience working with Cloud Platforms (Azure preferred, AWS also acceptable).

  • Familiarity with containers and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.

  • Strong experience working in Agile development environments.
