Job Description

Position Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of automated equipment, production machinery, and manufacturing systems. This role works closely with electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable automation solutions that meet customer and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, machine assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and automated production equipment.
  • Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs using CAD software.
  • Perform mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation.
  • Develop innovative solutions to improve machine performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support concept development, feasibility studies, and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with controls, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support prototype builds, machine assembly, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conduct simulation studies, motion analysis, and design verification as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with safety, quality, ergonomic, and customer requirements.
  • Support equipment commissioning, FAT, SAT, and site installation activities.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, standardization, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and engineering change requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in machine design, automation equipment design, or manufacturing engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and material selection.
  • Experience designing automation equipment, fixtures, conveyors, robotic cells, or assembly systems.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with motion analysis and design simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with pneumatics, robotics, and machine vision integration.
  • Experience in electronics, semiconductor, or high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of machine safety standards and ergonomic design principles.
  • Experience supporting Industry 4.0, Digital Twin, or smart manufacturing initiatives.
