Surya Advisories is looking for an experienced Shipping Manager to manage and coordinate international shipments, import documentation, freight forwarding, customs clearance and logistics activities.
The candidate should have strong practical experience in handling shipments from countries including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and Taiwan, and should be familiar with international shipping procedures, documentation and coordination with suppliers, freight forwarders and customs agents.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end international shipping and logistics operations.
- Coordinate shipments with overseas suppliers, particularly from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and Taiwan.
- Plan and monitor sea freight and air freight shipments to ensure timely movement of goods.
- Coordinate with suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers and transporters.
- Review and verify all import and shipping documents including:
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading / Airway Bill
- Certificate of Origin
- Insurance documents
- Import permits and other required documentation
- Ensure shipping documents are received and checked well in advance of vessel/flight arrival.
- Monitor ETD, ETA, vessel schedules, transshipment and shipment delays and provide regular shipment status reports.
- Coordinate customs clearance and ensure timely delivery of cargo to the warehouse.
- Negotiate and compare freight rates, shipping charges and logistics costs with freight forwarders and service providers.
- Monitor freight, duty, demurrage, detention, storage and other logistics-related costs.
- Work closely with the Purchase, Finance, Warehouse and Sales teams for shipment planning and inventory availability.
- Ensure shipment quantities and documentation are in accordance with Purchase Orders and supplier confirmations.
- Maintain proper shipment records and documentation for audit and internal control purposes.
- Identify potential shipping delays or documentation issues and take corrective action proactively.
- Develop and maintain a reliable network of freight forwarders, shipping lines and logistics service providers.
- Prepare periodic reports on shipment status, freight costs, transit times and logistics performance.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in international shipping, import logistics or freight forwarding.
- Good knowledge of international shipping procedures and import documentation.
- Experience handling shipments from Asian countries, particularly China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and Taiwan, will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sea freight, air freight, customs clearance and Incoterms.
- Experience dealing with freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs brokers.
- Good understanding of freight quotations and logistics cost comparison.
- Strong communication, coordination and negotiation skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously and work within strict timelines.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Preferred Candidate Profile
We are looking for a hands-on and responsible shipping professional who can independently manage international shipments, follow up closely with suppliers and logistics partners, anticipate potential delays and ensure that goods reach the destination on time and at an optimum logistics cost.
Candidates with experience in import-oriented trading, distribution, consumer goods, sporting goods or similar businesses will have an added advantage.
