Job Description: Senior Manager Safety

Job Title: Senior Manager Safety
Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Reports To: Head HSE / Plant Head / Operations Director
Location: Thane or Pune.


Job Summary

The Senior Manager Safety is responsible for leading the organization's occupational health and safety management system, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, minimizing workplace risks, and promoting a strong safety culture across all operations. The role includes developing safety strategies, managing audits, conducting risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with applicable legal and corporate safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organization's Health & Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety legislation, factory regulations, and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments (HIRA/JSA), and implementation of effective control measures.
  • Drive safety culture initiatives and behavioral safety programs across the organization.
  • Conduct internal safety audits, inspections, and ensure timely closure of observations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure statutory compliance related to occupational safety and maintain all required documentation and records.
  • Coordinate external audits, regulatory inspections, and customer safety assessments.
  • Develop and monitor safety KPIs and present performance reports to senior management.
  • Plan and conduct emergency preparedness drills, crisis management exercises, and evacuation programs.
  • Ensure contractor safety management and monitor compliance of third-party personnel.
  • Identify safety training needs and deliver awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Review safety procedures, SOPs, permit-to-work systems, and emergency response plans.
  • Lead a team of safety professionals and provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Support capital projects by ensuring safety requirements are incorporated during design, construction, and commissioning.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • **B.Tech / B.E. - Any Specialization. **

Mandatory Professional Qualification

  • *Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS)* or
  • *Post Diploma in Industrial Safety (PDIS)*

The candidate must possess either ADIS or PDIS. This is a mandatory qualification.


Experience

  • 15–20 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, with at least 4–6 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial projects, Roads, Railway, EPC Projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing statutory compliance, audits, incident investigations, contractor safety, and safety management systems.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of occupational safety laws and regulatory compliance.
  • Expertise in HIRA, JSA, PTW, LOTO, confined space, work at height, electrical safety, lifting operations, excavation safety, and contractor safety.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 management systems and internal/external audits.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and training skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools.
