Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer / Software Engineer – Test Automation
Employment Type: Full-time | Permanent
Shift: US Shift | Must provide coverage until 1:30 AM IST
Working Hours: Around 90% overlap with EST hours
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Quality Assurance Engineer / Test Automation Engineer with strong backend engineering experience and a proven background in test automation. The ideal candidate will initially focus on building and maintaining automated tests using TypeScript and Playwright, with opportunities to contribute to broader backend engineering initiatives using Java or Kotlin.
The role requires someone who can work independently, contribute to production code, and take ownership of quality, automation, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using TypeScript and Playwright.
- Develop functional, integration, and API tests for backend services and web applications.
- Write clear, comprehensive, scalable, and maintainable test cases.
- Develop and maintain backend services using Java or Kotlin.
- Contribute to production code in addition to test automation.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and perform root-cause analysis of defects and failures.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and support automated test execution.
- Collaborate with developers and other engineering teams to improve product quality and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and follow Git/pull-request workflows.
- Ensure adequate test coverage across critical application workflows and backend services.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong professional experience in backend engineering and test engineering/automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Test Automation.
- Hands-on experience developing backend services using Java or Kotlin.
- Advanced TypeScript skills.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright, including creating and maintaining test frameworks.
- Experience with functional, integration, and API testing.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend services.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to write high-quality, maintainable, and comprehensive test cases.
- Ability to independently contribute to production/backend code, not just test code.
- Strong experience working with Git and pull-request workflows.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms and containerized services.
- Experience working with microservice architectures.
- Experience with performance, reliability, accessibility, or contract testing.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with web and mobile web testing tools.
