Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
Perform electrical design and development for Fluence's grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products. This role focuses on independently owning electrical subsystem design while collaborating across engineering disciplines to develop safe, flexible, maintainable, and cost-competitive products.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and own electrical designs for assigned subsystems within multi-MW energy storage products, including battery systems, power conversion systems, medium-voltage transformers, controls hardware, communication systems, auxiliary power, and safety equipment.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design specifications, datasheets, interface documents, configuration limitations, and product performance metrics.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, verification, testing, manufacturing, and product management teams to achieve program objectives.
- Support system integration activities by ensuring assigned subsystem designs are compatible with overall product architecture and meet functional requirements.
- Understand interactions between major BESS components and evaluate the impact of engineering changes on system performance, safety, reliability, and cost.
- Support development of installation manuals, operation manuals, maintenance documentation, and site design guides.
- Perform and review electrical studies including:
- Short circuit analysis
- Protection sizing
- Protection coordination
- Arc flash analysis
- Auxiliary load estimation
- Evaluate applicable electrical standards, product safety requirements, and local codes to support compliance and certification activities.
- Work with electrical component suppliers to evaluate components, review technical data, and support component selection activities.
- Incorporate lessons learned and feedback from regional engineering, commissioning, manufacturing, and service teams into product improvements.
- Support product releases by preparing engineering documentation through Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and coordinating with CAD drafting teams.
- Support prototype builds, hardware validation, test planning, execution, and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, component owners, program managers, and verification teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Independently execute engineering tasks for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and support technical planning for assigned work packages.
- Participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions, DFMEA activities, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
- Protect intellectual property and follow engineering processes, quality standards, and export-controlled technology requirements.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
