Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Backend Engineer (with full-stack ability) who is a strong thinker and independent problem-solver. The role is backend-heavy — roughly 70% backend in Node.js (TypeScript) and about 30% frontend in React.js (TypeScript). You will design APIs and data models, build integrations, and take real ownership: given just a feature idea — even without a detailed BRD, PRD, or Figma design — you should be able to do the R&D, define the requirements and approach yourself, and build it end to end. We want someone with an edge — who takes initiative, fills in the gaps, digs into unknowns, and ships.

Primary Focus Areas

• Backend (Node.js): (~70%) Design and build backend services and APIs in Node.js with TypeScript (Express/NestJS) — REST APIs, data modeling in PostgreSQL via an ORM, Redis caching, third-party integrations, and security.
• Frontend (React.js): (~30%) Build responsive front-ends in React.js (TypeScript) — components, state management, hooks, and API integration; turn a Figma design (or just a rough idea) into working UI.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Development: Develop and maintain Node.js (TypeScript) services and REST APIs with clean, testable, well-structured code.
• Database & ORM: Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and work through an ORM (Sequelize or Prisma) — migrations, relations, indexing, and transactions; write raw SQL when needed.
• Integrations: Build integrations with third-party services and APIs (payments, auth providers, messaging, internal systems) reliably and securely.
• Security & Auth: Own application security — authentication/authorization with Keycloak (JWT/OAuth2/OIDC), input validation, secrets handling, and secure coding practices.
• Observability & Tracing: Instrument services with observability and distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry with a tool like Jaeger / Grafana Tempo / SigNoz) to debug and monitor across services.
• R&D & Ownership: Take ownership end to end: from just a feature idea — without waiting for a detailed BRD, PRD, or Figma design — do the R&D, define the requirements and approach yourself, and build/deliver it independently.
• Frontend Development: Build React.js UIs (~30% of the role): reusable components, state management, hooks, and API integration — from a Figma design or, when there isn't one, from the idea itself.
• Caching & Performance: Use Redis for caching, sessions, or queues to improve performance and scalability.
• Testing & Quality: Write unit and integration tests; participate in code reviews and maintain code quality.
• Collaboration & Mentoring: Collaborate with product, design, and QA; guide and mentor junior engineers.

Required Skills & Experience

• MUST HAVE: (Most important) A strong thinker and self-starter who can take just a feature idea — without a detailed BRD, PRD, or Figma design — do the R&D, define it themselves, and build it independently with an ownership mindset and an edge.
• 3–8 years of hands-on backend/full-stack development experience in production environments.
• Strong Node.js with TypeScript — building REST APIs and backend services (Express or NestJS). This is the core of the role.
• Solid PostgreSQL / SQL and hands-on experience with an ORM — Sequelize or Prisma — schema design, joins, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
• Experience building third-party integrations and secure APIs, with authentication/authorization using Keycloak (JWT/OAuth2/OIDC).
• Working React.js with TypeScript (~30% of the role) — hooks, components, state management, and building UI from a Figma design or just an idea.
• Experience with Redis (caching/sessions/queues) or a similar in-memory store.
• Familiarity with observability and distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Jaeger/Tempo/SigNoz, or similar).
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals — async/await, promises, and the Node.js event loop.

Good to Have

• Delivery & Ops: Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/GitHub Actions), and containerized deployments (Docker); troubleshooting production issues and doing RCA.
• GraphQL (Apollo) for API design.
• NestJS and message queues (RabbitMQ/Kafka).
• Cloud deployment (GCP / AWS / Azure).
• Testing frameworks (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress/Playwright).
• NoSQL (MongoDB), WebSockets, and microservices architecture.
• Frontend tooling (Vite/Webpack), Tailwind/Material UI, and performance profiling.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.Role & responsibilities
