Senior Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities

Primary: MS SQL Server Administration

• Design, deploy, and maintain mission-critical MS SQL Server databases in on-premise

and cloud environments.

• Manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including AlwaysOn

Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, and Replication.

• Perform advanced query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning to resolve

complex database performance issues.

• Develop and implement robust backup, restore, and data archiving strategies.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting languages.
• Manage database security, user access, and auditing in compliance with industry

standards.

Secondary: Open-Source & NoSQL Database Management

• Administer, monitor, and optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, including

managing replication and routine maintenance (e.g., PostgreSQL vacuuming).

• Deploy and maintain MongoDB clusters, ensuring proper sharding, replica set

configuration, and document modeling optimization.

• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and implement scaling strategies across open-

source platforms.

• Assist in migrating data between different database engines where architecturally

appropriate.

General Engineering & Leadership

• Lead database capacity planning and infrastructure scaling initiatives.
• Collaborate with software engineers to review schema designs and optimize database

interactions within applications.

• Establish and enforce database development standards, best practices, and CI/CD

pipelines for database deployments.

• Mentor junior database administrators and engineers.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to resolve critical database incidents.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of dedicated Database Administration experience, with at least 5

years focused heavily on MS SQL Server.

• Expertise in MS SQL: Deep, hands-on knowledge of MS SQL Server internals, T-SQL,

execution plan analysis, Extended Events, and Query Store.

• Open-Source Proficiency: 2+ years of hands-on experience managing and

troubleshooting MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB in a production environment.

• Scripting & Automation: Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell,

Python, or Bash.

• OS Knowledge: Solid understanding of both Windows Server and Linux operating

systems as they relate to database performance.

• Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with a proven track record of resolving

complex database outages and performance degradation under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Cloud Database PaaS/IaaS offerings (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience implementing database monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Redgate, Datadog,

or Percona Monitoring and Management).

• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate,

DBA certification).
