Job Description

Senior Data Architect (CIM, Enterprise Modelling & EA Repositories) Job Description
Role Purpose
The Senior Data Architect is responsible for defining, developing, and institutionalising the bank s Common Information Model (CIM) as the foundation for enterprise data interoperability. The role spans enterprise data modelling, integration canonicalization, metadata alignment, STTM mapping across systems, and architecture documentation across both Erwin and Abacus.
This role facilitates and enforces the CIM as the authoritative semantic layer for all data platforms, analytics, integration, and regulatory reporting initiatives.
Primary Objectives
1. Define and Develop the Bank s Common Information Model (CIM)
  • Establish a unified, business-aligned CIM based on:
    • BIAN BOM
    • Localised business concepts and semantic refinements
    • Bank-on-a-Page (BOAP) capability model based on BIAN Service Landscape
  • Define modelling standards, cardinalities, relationships, and domain semantics.
  • Ensure the CIM becomes the common language of data across Business, IT, EA, and Data.
2. Perform Source-to-CIM and CIM-to-Consumer Mapping Source-to-Target-Mapping (STTM)
  • Analyse data models of core banking, channels, lending, cards, CRM, AML, Risk and Finance systems.
  • Develop full source-to-CIM, and CIM-to-data-platform mappings (warehouse/ODS/lakehouse).
  • Ensure mapping completeness for data ingestion, integration, analytics, and regulatory reporting.
3. Standardise Integration and Microservices on the CIM
  • Design and document canonical data models, API schemas, and service payloads derived from the CIM.
  • Ensure integration services/microservices adopt CIM objects as the basis for request/response structures.
  • Influence process documentation (BPMN, service blueprints) to reference CIM business objects.
4. Document All Data Architecture Artefacts in Abacus and Erwin
  • Use Erwin for conceptual, logical, and physical data models (CDM, LDM, PDM).
  • Use Abacus for:
    • Enterprise integration modelling (canonical, microservice/data contract schemas)
    • Application data/service dependency mapping
    • Capability-to-data alignment
    • Architecture views, lineage, and data flow diagrams
  • Ensure interoperability and alignment between Erwin models and Abacus EA artefacts.
  • Apply modelling standards that allow seamless referencing between the two repositories.
5. Ensure Regulatory Alignment & Architecture Compliance
  • Ensure the CIM, mappings, lineage, and EA artefacts comply with:
    • NDMO DAM (data architecture, metadata, lineage)
    • SAMA IT Governance Framework (ITGF)
    • AML, Finance, Risk, MIS reporting structures
  • Build metadata structures and lineage views to support audit and regulatory traceability.
6. Knowledge Transfer & Institutional Adoption
  • Train architects, data engineers, business analysts, and integration specialists on the CIM.
  • Produce adoption guides, modelling playbooks, and reusable templates.
  • Ensure the bank is fully equipped to evolve and maintain the CIM after the project.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build and publish CIM artefacts, domain models, canonical models, and semantic definitions.
  • Analyze source systems and produce high-quality STTM mappings.
  • Create and maintain modelling standards across Erwin and Abacus.
  • Document data architecture artefacts, lineage, flows, and integration diagrams in Abacus.
  • Collaborate with EA, data architecture, solution architecture, data governance, data engineering, software engineering, integration, and business teams.
  • Review solution designs for CIM conformity and data architecture alignment.
  • Produce architecture views aligned to TOGAF, BIAN, NDMO DAM and SAMA ITGF.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
  • 8 12 years in Data Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or large-scale data modelling roles.
  • Expert-level proficiency in data modelling
  • Exposure to data modelling tools (i.e., Erwin (preferred), PowerDesigner).
  • Strong proficiency in enterprise architecture (EA) and development of EA artefacts, integration modelling, and architecture documentation.
  • Exposure to EA planning tools (i.e., Abacus (preferred), BizzDesign, LeanIX).
  • Demonstrated experience building CIMs, canonical models, and domain-driven data designs.
  • Strong background in BIAN BOM, FSDF, EDM, FIBO, or similar reference models.
  • Experience mapping core banking and financial systems to enterprise models.
  • Solid understanding of data platform architecture (ODS, DWH, lakehouse).
  • Experience supporting regulatory needs (AML, Finance, Risk, NDMO DAM, SAMA ITGF).
Engagement Scope (9 12 Months)
Each Senior Data Architect will deliver:
  • CIM v1.0 covering priority banking domains.
  • Source-to-CIM mappings for all major systems.
  • CIM-to-data-platform mappings for ingestion and transformation.
  • Canonical service/microservice schemas created in Abacus.
  • Enterprise data architecture views, lineage, flows and governance artefacts in Abacus.
  • Modelling standards and methodology ensuring Abacus/Erwin interoperability.
  • Training, documentation, and capability uplift for internal teams.
