Senior Data Analyst (oil & gas, energy,industrial)

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst with expert-level SQL capabilities to support dataset development, debugging, and optimization within a Databricks environment for an oil & gas organization. This role will partner closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analytics teams to build reliable, scalable datasets and improve reporting accuracy across operational and commercial functions.

Domain preference: Experience in Oil & Gas, Energy, or Industrial domain is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, debug, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries and data pipelines within Databricks.
• Build and validate curated datasets to support analytics, reporting, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
• Investigate data quality issues, reconcile discrepancies, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks across large-scale datasets.
• Collaborate with business users and technical teams to translate oil & gas reporting requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Work with structured and semi-structured data from upstream, midstream, or downstream operational systems.
• Support ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and documentation of business logic and transformation rules.
• Ensure data governance, consistency, and best practices across enterprise analytics workflows.

Required Skills & Experience

• Advanced / expert SQL skills, including query optimization, window functions, CTEs, complex joins, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience working with Databricks and large-scale cloud data platforms.
• Experience debugging complex datasets and identifying root causes of data inconsistencies.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT frameworks, and analytics engineering practices.
• Experience within the oil & gas, energy, or industrial sectors is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Python, Spark, or PySpark is a plus.
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Background

• Experience supporting enterprise reporting, operational analytics, or production data environments.
• Knowledge of upstream production, drilling, reserves, trading, or supply chain datasets is beneficial.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving business requirements.
