Job Title: Senior CMDB Developer (7+ years)

Job Summary

The Senior CMDB Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the enterprise Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within ServiceNow. This role ensures high-quality, reliable, and scalable configuration data that powers EA, ITSM, ITOM, SAM, and automation initiatives.

This position requires strong technical expertise, architecture thinking, and hands-on development across CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, and integrations, along with ownership of data governance, health, and lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities

1. CMDB Architecture & Development

• Design and maintain CMDB data models (CSDM aligned), CI class structures, and relationships
• Develop and enhance ServiceNow CMDB using:
• Business Rules, Script Includes, Flow Designer, UI Policies
• Configure and maintain Discovery, Service Mapping, and CMDB Workspace
• Implement lifecycle states, CI governance rules, and automation

2. Discovery, Service Mapping & Integrations

• Build and maintain Discovery patterns, schedules, probes, and MID server configurations
• Integrate CMDB with enterprise systems (e.g., SCCM, Intune, AWS, Azure, monitoring tools)
• Define Identification & Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules and normalization processes
• Ensure trusted system-of-record integration and deduplication strategies

3. Data Quality & CMDB Health

• Monitor and improve CMDB health KPIs:
• Completeness, correctness, compliance
• Implement:
• Data certification
• Duplicate CI detection
• Reconciliation automation
• Conduct root cause analysis for data issues and drive corrective actions

4. Governance & Process Alignment

• Define and enforce:
• CI naming conventions
• Data standards and policies
• Lifecycle and ownership models
• Align CMDB with ITIL processes:
• Incident, Change, Problem, Asset lifecycle
• Partner with ITSM, ITOM, SAM, EA, Security teams for cross-domain alignment

5. Automation & Innovation

• Identify and implement automation opportunities:
• CI onboarding
• Data reconciliation
• Service mapping enrichment
• Enable AI-driven or rule-based CMDB operations (e.g., duplicate detection, anomaly detection)
• Support AIOps and service dependency modeling initiatives

6. Enterprise Architecture Optimization

• Partner with the Enterprise Architecture team to own the design, development, and ongoing evolution of scoped EA capabilities within the ServiceNow platform
• Evaluate, activate, and govern EA-related ServiceNow plugins
• Design and build integrations that connect EA to adjacent platform domains - SPM, ITSM, ITOM, IRM
• Design and maintain EA data models and cross-domain CI relationship structures, following CSDM alignment and ServiceNow platform best practices

7. Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work with:
• Infrastructure teams (compute, storage, network, cloud)
• Application owners and architects
• Asset and procurement teams
• Translate business requirements into scalable CMDB solutions
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior developers

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in ServiceNow development, and a strong command over CMDB Module, including configurations, scripting, workflows, and tables.
• Experience with ServiceNow Discovery, Rest APIs, OOB integrations, IntegrationHub and related applications.
• Strong understanding of JavaScript (server-side and client-side), Glide APIs, HTML, CSS, and AJAX.
• Proficiency in building Business Rules, Client Scripts, UI Policies, Script Includes, Flow Designer, and Access Control Lists (ACLs).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., ServiceNow Certified Application Developer) are a plus.
