Job Description

SMBT is seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Officer to ensure a safe and compliant working environment across the hospital and medical college. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing safety policies, conducting inspections and audits, ensuring statutory compliance, and promoting a strong culture of workplace safety.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with hospital safety standards, fire safety regulations, and all applicable statutory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Monitor workplace safety practices, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and infection control measures.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-miss events, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct fire drills, mock drills, and emergency preparedness training programs.
  • Coordinate with the Fire Department and other regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with legal and safety requirements.
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection reports, licenses, permits, and statutory records.
  • Conduct safety induction programs and awareness sessions for employees, students, and contractors.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of biomedical waste in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety standards and foster a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Fire & Safety, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or Fire Safety Certification will be an added advantage.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • 3-8 years of experience in a Safety Officer role, preferably in a hospital, healthcare, medical college, or industrial environment.
  • Sound knowledge of fire safety regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and statutory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and mitigate workplace risks.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and training skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal departments and external regulatory agencies.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe working environment.
