Safety Officer

Role & responsibilities

Safety Management

• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits across the extraction plant.
• Monitor safe operation of solvent extraction equipment, storage tanks, pipelines, boilers, and utility systems.
• Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Risk Assessment & Control

• Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and risk mitigation studies.
• Ensure implementation of control measures for fire, explosion, chemical exposure, and confined space hazards.
• Review safety procedures for maintenance shutdowns and project activities.

Permit to Work (PTW) System

• Administer and monitor PTW systems for:

1. Hot work
2. Cold work
3. Confined space entry
4. Electrical isolation (LOTO)
5. Work at height
6. Excavation activities

Emergency Preparedness

• Organize mock drills for fire, solvent leakage, and emergency response situations.
• Maintain emergency response plans and evacuation procedures.
• Coordinate with fire and emergency response teams.

Training & Awareness

• Conduct induction training for new employees and contractors.
• Organize toolbox talks and safety awareness programs.
• Promote safety culture and employee participation in safety initiatives.

Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain statutory safety records, registers, and reports.
• Ensure compliance with:
• Factories Act and applicable state rules
• PESO requirements
• Fire safety regulations
• Environmental and occupational health requirements
• Support internal and external safety audits.

Preferred candidate profile

• Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
• Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety from a recognized institute.

Experience

• Fresher to 10 years of experience in industrial safety within extraction plants, edible oil plants, chemical plants, solvent extraction plants, or manufacturing industries.
• Experience with flammable solvents and hazardous chemical handling preferred.
