Job Description
The Intern Core Turbo & ZEV Applications will support the simulation and analysis of centrifugal compressors and turbine stages used in turbocharger and Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) applications. The intern will assist in evaluating aerodynamic performance and internal flow behavior through CFD simulations, while learning industry-standard turbomachinery analysis practices.
Working closely with senior CFD engineers and subject matter experts, the intern will gain hands-on experience in CAD modeling, meshing, CFD setup, post-processing, and technical reporting using advanced engineering software tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the creation and preparation of 3D fluid domains using CAD tools such as CATIA, ANSYS SpaceClaim, or OnShape.
- Assist in generating high-quality tetrahedral and hexahedral meshes for turbomachinery geometries using tools such as ANSYS Mesher, ICEM CFD, TurboGrid, or AG5.
- Perform CFD simulations for rotating machinery applications using ANSYS CFX, Fluent, or FINE/Turbo under guidance from senior analysts.
- Help analyze compressor and turbine performance characteristics including pressure ratio, efficiency, flow field behavior, and losses.
- Post-process simulation results and create visualizations, plots, and technical summaries.
- Prepare clear and structured reports and presentations for engineering teams and project reviews.
- Follow established CFD best practices, validation procedures, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support development activities and meet project timelines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor s or Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- Basic understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and turbomachinery concepts.
- Familiarity with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, CFX, or similar simulation software is preferred.
- Exposure to CAD software such as CATIA, SpaceClaim, SolidWorks, or OnShape is an advantage.
- Knowledge of meshing techniques and rotating machinery simulations is a plus.
- Basic programming or scripting knowledge (Python or MATLAB) is desirable.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
What You Will Gain
- Practical experience in turbomachinery CFD simulations and analysis.
- Exposure to industry-standard engineering tools and workflows.
- Opportunity to work on advanced turbocharger and ZEV technologies.
- Mentorship from experienced CFD and aerodynamic engineers.
- Experience in technical reporting, engineering communication, and collaborative product development.
