Job Description
Job Purpose
Work with the radiologist to perform various kinds of diagnostic imagining examinations that are crucial for the detection of illness, injury, and other medical conditions. Obtain a high-quality image that will be adequate for a correct diagnosis by the radiologist. Provide essential support to make sure the patient is comfortable and at ease throughout the course of the procedure.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- CT Scan Experience and Knowledge is must.
- Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
- Follow exact orders from physicians on which areas of the body to image and with what type of equipment.
- Explain the procedure to patients prior to beginning, including answering questions and calming any concerns to ensure their comfort.
- Instruct patients to remove garments or jewelry that will interfere with the procedure.
- Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Adjust, maintain, and sterilize the medical diagnostic imaging equipment, as well as the room in which the testing takes place.
- Place the patient and equipment in the optimal location to receive the best image quality to ensure correct diagnosis by the radiologist.
- Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Maintain log books for all equipment with relevant information regularly updated.
- Operate the diagnostic imaging equipment to take the images, while being certain that images are captured from every angle needed to be assessed.
- Communicate with the radiologist, physician, and other members of the health care team to determine whether more images need to be taken.
- Maintain detailed records of procedures the patient received, diagnosis, and other medical notes that are of concern for proper treatment.
- Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
- Ensure Availability of Clean bed-sheets and the patient gowns.
- Ensure proper functioning of the equipment of the radiology department.
- Check, keep and maintain all the accessories in the room.
- Process and positioning patients properly to obtain x-rays, CT scans, MR scans, mammograms or BMD Cassettes.
- Applying their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems.
- To dispatch the reported radiograph to the respective area or to front desk.
- Maintain the department statistic on a daily basis.
